the Mk.II lineup really consistenly put out top-notch material. it’s too bad they couldn’t seem to ever stick together for very long. I’ve heard that Blackmore can be an absolute c**t to get along with.

I once had a roommate who absolutely worshiped Ritchie Blackmore. I mean I heard Man On the Silver Mountain more times than any human should have to endure. The fact that I’m still able to listen to it shows that Blackmore must have been pretty damn good.

Always a risk with a guitar-focused band - Priest got by without major egomania or substance abuse out of Downing and Tipton, but UFO certainly got on the rocks with Schenker, and many other bands have as well (cough, any version of Van Halen, cough).

Or that Jon Lord’s Hammond is a heavenly thing. Possibly both.

true, but IIRC Priest was one of the first big name bands in metal’s early days to have two guitarist of equal importance. although K.K. did leave a few years ago, but he might have just been tired and had enough. I haven’t read anything about his reasons for leaving.

Was Lord in Rainbow at the time? Blackmore fired so many people that I never knew who played on what song. The man lacked people skills.

I could be wrong. I don’t really know. It’s Lord-ish, certainly.

Maiden is an interesting object lesson in having guitarists recirculate and then start to amass... Never with any acrimony I’m aware of, unlike the squeezing out of Paul and Clive. No lead guitarist ego issues, but a band with one clear boss (Steve) who has been okay with hiring and firing a bit.

Reminds me that I need to listen to
